da fezbet: Liverpool will be painted in red on the day Jurgen Klopp lifts his arm to touch the famous 'This Is Anfield' sign in Liverpool's home ground for one final time.
da dobrowin: The sun is westering on Merseyside as the lionised German's tenure draws to a close, and with the Carabao Cup bagged this season and silverware very much grabbable in the Premier League and Europa League, a deafening conclusion is on the cards.
Self-branded 'heavy metal' football, devastating counter-transitions, mentality monsters, rich emergence of youth. This is Klopp's legacy. The nuts and bolts of the 56-year-old's success in Liverpool lie with the astute transfer activity over the past eight years or so, with shrewd deals and pinpoint bids shaping a team bitterly admired by rivals near and far.
Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.
Mohamed Salah: signed from Roma for £34m. Virgil van Dijk? Arrived from Southampton for £75m – that one hit the mark. Andy Robertson, you say? He joined from Hull City for just £10m, since becoming one of the finest full-backs in Europe.
Imagine if Liverpool employed a strategy that precluded this, implementing the transfer policy that has been in place at Athletic Bilbao over in Spain since 1912, only signing players originating from Basque Country or having developed their formative skills at a Basque club.
With Klopp leaving in the summer, the frontrunner to succeed the legendary gaffer Xabi Alonso could craft an interesting team from city-grown stars, with the Spaniard working wonders at Bayer Leverkusen and fiercely pursued.
Michael Edwards has returned as FSG's new CEO of football, while Richard Hughes has been appointed as Liverpool's new sporting director, and in this hypothetical scenario, the duo would have their work cut out to make things work, signing exclusively from Merseyside.
But would such a team succeed in the Premier League?
1 GK – Harvey Davies Born: Liverpool
Liverpool goalkeeper Harvey Davies
Goalkeeper is a tough one, with Caoimhin Kelleher on Liverpool's books since he was 16 years old, arriving from Irish outfit Ringmahon Rangers.
He's not scouse though, and so Harvey Davies would earn his place between the sticks, with the 20-year-old Reds shot-stopper currently out on loan with Crewe Alexandra in League Two, saving 69% of his shots faced.
2 RB – Trent Alexander-Arnold Born: West Derby
Trent Alexander-Arnold warming up for Liverpool.
Who to stick at right-back was a tough one, but we suppose Trent Alexander-Arnold will do. Klopp's vice-captain has gone from strength to strength since graduating from Liverpool's academy and is now one of Europe's most influential stars, described as a "genius" for his ball-playing ability by reporter Neil Jones.
3 CB – Jarell Quansah Born: Warrington
Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah.
New on the block but cultured and possessed by a swagger that belies his years, Jarell Quansah is Merseyside's standout centre-back right now (born between the Manchester/Mersey divide), with his future at Liverpool tipped to be laden with success.
Remarked to be "excelling" this season in a "master/apprentice" partnership with indomitable captain Virgil van Dijk by The Athletic's James Pearce, this kid is the real deal – and even better, he's one of our own.
4 CB – Conor Coady Born: St Helens
Conor Coady for Liverpool
The first player not actually in Liverpool's real squad goes to Conor Coady, though he did graduate from the academy way back when and made a grand total of two appearances before being purchased by Huddersfield Town back in 2014 for £500,000.
Slim pickings really, barring Quansah, though Coady is now a veteran of the English game and has played 176 games in the Premier League,
5 LB – Martin Kelly Born: Whiston
Martin Kelly for Liverpool
In this distorted version of footballing life, Liverpool would have had to make use of Martin Kelly's talents at left-back for far longer than was actually the case, with the West Bromwich Albion defender joining Liverpool aged seven and playing 62 times for the Merseyside club before moving away.
He's naturally a right-sided player but is competent across the back four and would be a valuable asset for a Liverpool team constrained by local signing restrictions.
6 DM – Tyler Morton Born: Wallasey
Tyler Morton for Hull City
A rising star who could yet find a place in Liverpool's senior side, Tyler Morton currently plies his trade out on loan with promotion-chasing Hull City, but in this parallel world, he'd have been placed in the midfield anchor under Alonso.
Described as an "incredible talent" by media man Matthew Stanger, Morton is an underrated player, completing 89% of his passes for the Tigers and averaging 1.3 key passes and 4.7 ball recoveries per fixture.
7 CM – Tom Davies Born: Liverpool
Everton's Tom Davies
Ah, perhaps the first real point of contention, here. Fair enough, Tom Davies is actually a product of Everton's academy. Yes, he's struggled to cement a spot at Goodison Park over the past few years and now plays for imperilled Sheffield United, starting just two top-flight matches this term.
But there's not much to choose from here and Liverpool would have sought him out as one of Merseyside's brightest midfield talents and guided him to prominence at Liverpool. Maybe he might have realised some of that potential woven into his natural skill set.
8 CM – Ross Barkley Born: Wavertree
Luton midfielder Ross Barkley
Another Everton man, but this one does make more sense. Ross Barkley is a very good player but he has struggled against injuries most of his career and saw his huge potential derailed after completing a £15m move from Goodison to Chelsea back in 2018.
He's returned to England this term with newly-promoted Luton Town after a stint in France and has proved himself one of the standout summer signings, said to be "not far off player of the season" by Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.
As per Sofascore, the 30-year-old Merseysider has posted four goals and three assists from 24 Premier League matches in the current campaign, completing 84% of his passes and averaging 1.7 key passes, 1.5 tackles, 6.4 ball recoveries, 2.3 dribbles and 6.8 successful duels per match.
9 RW – Anthony Gordon Born: Liverpool
Anthony Gordon.
Anthony Gordon is scouse through and through, though both sides of the Merseyside pond seem to loathe the electric winger. For Everton, he fled during a time of great need, completing a £45m transfer to Newcastle United in January 2023; for Liverpool, Gordon is the enemy, though he actually spent some time at the Liverpool youth academy during his teenage years.

For this reason, Liverpool would have nurtured his qualities in this reality and guided him through the layers toward the senior set-up, where he would be thriving on the wing and wreaking havoc in his native city.
10 LW – Curtis Jones Born: Liverpool, raised in Toxteth
Liverpool player Curtis Jones.
A true Liverpudlian, a proper denizen. Curtis Jones' importance at Liverpool would have been swelled and then some here, featuring prominently in the Liverpool-born XI.
A central midfielder, Jones is more than capable out on the left wing and that is where he would ply his trade for this team, dazzling with elite control and savvy match intelligence.
As per FBref, the 23-year-old ranks among the top 14% of positional peers for goals, the top 17% for assists, the top 5% for pass completion, the top 8% for progressive carries and the top 12% for successful take-ons per 90 – need more be said?
The board’s CEO Warren Deutrom lays out the obstacles in hosting matches under the current climate

Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom has conceded that there is a “high risk” that home series against New Zealand and Pakistan this summer will fall victim to the coronavirus pandemic. The start of the Irish season has already been pushed back to the end of May, meaning that Bangladesh’s scheduled tour for three ODIs and four T20Is has been postponed, and with international travel severely limited as things stand, it is possible that Ireland will not play a single home fixture this summer.New Zealand are due to play three ODIs and three T20Is from June 19, while Pakistan are scheduled to play two T20Is in July in between series in the Netherlands and England.”We’re all going to have to take a pragmatic approach – we just don’t know what’s going to happen even if sport does get back up and running in June,” Deutrom said. “With regards to international cricket, we remain in a wait-and-see holding pattern. Clearly, there is a high risk that our men’s home series against New Zealand and Pakistan… may be postponed if government restrictions remain in place.”Of course, some of the challenge we face in trying to bring some degree of certainty are no different to any other sport with international opposition – for example attaining visas for visiting teams and their support staff may not be possible as the Department of Foreign Affairs and the UK Foreign Office are currently not processing visa applications.”In addition, each country will take the advice of their home government, so teams may not even be in a position to travel to Europe. More specific to our situation, both New Zealand and Pakistan are visiting multiple countries on their tours, so that adds an extra layer of complexity. Then there are more logistical issues such as hotel and international flight bookings, the movement and staffing of broadcast facilities, and complying with the restrictions that may still exist around large group gatherings.”Two weeks ago, NZC chief executive David White indicated that the tour to Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands and the Caribbean was “most unlikely”, while PCB chairman Ehsan Mani told the board’s podcast this week that “preparation for the tour might become an issue if this keeps going the way it is.””It will also depend to a large degree on what the situation is like in England and Ireland,” Mani said. “If those series are disrupted, it will have a lot of impact. [The national boards] will also obviously have a huge financial impact. To reschedule those [tours] to fit into a future FTP will become a big challenge.”Irish cricket faces a further obstacle in that it has no permanent stadium, and relies heavily on temporary infrastructure at home fixtures. “Not only does this extend our lead-times for series preparation,” Deutrom said, “but also – at this time of crisis – we are aware that there is a shortage of temporary or portable infrastructure on the market as most is understandably in use by [Irish and Northern Irish health services].”The groundsman at Malahide – the ground near Dublin due to host both fixtures against Pakistan – has been temporarily repatriated to England by the local club, and Deutrom has previously indicated Cricket Ireland would monitor its readiness to host international cricket once restrictions are lifted.Deutrom also confirmed that the board has taken measures to preserve jobs and “to buffer the organisation through at least the next two months” with revenue shortfalls expected through loss of broadcast and sponsorship revenue. All non-playing staff have taken a 20% wage cut for April and May, while Deutrom himself will take a 25% cut for the rest of the calendar year.Centrally-contracted players have not been asked to take a cut on their retainer, on account of the losses already incurred due to the absence of match fees. “To ask them to take a further cut to their base remuneration… would be unreasonable,” Deutrom said.It remains to be seen how well-equipped Cricket Ireland is to deal with the crisis financially, with the annual report for 2019 due to be published within the next few weeks. The board’s 2018 accounts showed that cash reserves had been depleted to just €13,470 (14,700 USD approx), with the achievement of Test status leading to vastly increased costs, while Mani has warned that many boards will “feel the pinch” of the crisis, not least if the T20 World Cup is postponed.
da esport bet: Manchester United's interest in signing a defensive "monster" in the summer transfer window is becoming "increasingly insistent", according to journalist Rudy Galetti.
Busy summer ahead of Man Utd
da betsul: The Sir Jim Ratcliffe era has got off to a promising start at Old Trafford, with United's new part-owner making big changes behind the scenes. The hope is that the Red Devils will embark on one of their best transfer windows in years this summer, helped by the likely appointment of Dan Ashworth.
There are various areas of the pitch that need to be improved upon, and one of those is centre-back, with the likes of Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans not representing the future. For that reason, Nottingham Forest ace Murillo has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, having enjoyed an impressive season at the City Ground. He has started 27 games in the Premier League, averaging 5.7 clearances per match.
In an attacking sense, Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise is reportedly wanted by United, being seen as a noticeable upgrade on Antony, who has continually not offered enough product during his time at the club, scoring just twice all season in all competitions.
Rasmus Hojlund may be a hugely promising young striker, but more competition for him could be needed moving forward, and Sporting CP ace Viktor Gyokeres is seen as an option. The Swede is enjoying a fantastic season, scoring 22 times in 28 appearances in the Primeira Liga.
Man Utd want to sign defensive "monster"
Taking to X, Galetti claimed that United are in the mix to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer this summer, with a replacement already being looked at by his current club:
"Hermoso will leave Atleti in June as a free agent, no doubt. Juventus are monitoring him as a possible replacement of Bremer, on whom the #ManUTD's interest is becoming increasingly insistent. Inter, Aston Villa and other English clubs have Mario on the CB's list."
Juventus' Gleison Bremer
Bremer is exactly the kind of player who United could do with next season, coming in as a dominant figure who is both experienced and young enough to be a key figure for four or five years at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old has shone at the heart of Juve's defence this term, winning 2.9 aerial duels per game across 32 Serie A appearances, not to mention 4.2 clearances per match.
He could be viewed as a great partner for Lisandro Martinez moving forward, with the Argentine the only current United centre-back who genuinely feels like a key part of the club's future. Analyst Ben Mattinson has described the Juve man as a "monster" due to his expertise at the back, and he could see the Red Devils as an enticing proposition.
£68m striker who turned Ten Hag down twice open to future Man Utd move
Could it be third time lucky for the Dutch manager?
ByBen Browning Apr 20, 2024
Perhaps the biggest negative could be the fact that United look like they won't be playing Champions League football next season, but they remain a huge club that can offer big wages and the prospect of a successful future.

da marjack bet: With a summer to-do list a mile long, FSG's first port of call will be to find the future of the Liverpool dugout at Anfield.
Liverpool's managerial manhunt continues
da bet7: As the news of Jurgen Klopp's departure finally sets in for the Liverpool faithful, attention has now turned as to who will follow up the German's impressive spell with the Premier League club.
Liverpool man holding meetings to pick next club after exit decision made
He is planning to use the two-week international break to weigh up his options.
ByBen Browning Mar 16, 2024
The immediate front-runner for the vacancy has been Xabi Alonso who has made waves this season as the manager of Bayer Leverkusen. Sitting seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, the ex-Liverpool player will be in demand this summer meaning the Reds will face stiff competition to secure his services.
Xabi Alonso in action for Liverpool.
With Bayern Munich also in the market for a new manager, Alonso may have the pick of his former sides when it comes to choosing his next destination. Remaining in Germany could prove the best arrangement for the Spaniard in the short term, making a move to the Bavarian giants the more likely outcome.
As the search for a new boss continues, Fabrizio Romano has given Liverpool fans a big clue as to who their side could go after if they are to miss out on Alonso.
Fabrizio Romano drops Liverpool manager hint
Whilst Alonso remains firmly at the forefront of FSG's search for a new manager, Romano has claimed that Liverpool also have their eye on other targets. He reports that the Reds are one of a number of sides eyeing up Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim with the journalist stating:
“We know many clubs will be busy with hiring new managers over the summer, that Bayern and Liverpool will fight for Xabi Alonso.
“I told you before and I’ll keep repeating it…. Keep an eye on Ruben Amorim, the Sporting manager, because many clubs are looking at him, including in England as he’s appreciated in the Premier League.
Sporting's Ruben Amorim
“We already say that he could be another candidate for Liverpool in addition to Xabi Alonso, but we know that Bayern are looking at both of them. Let’s see what’s gonna happen.”
It had been previously reported that Amorim was on a shortlist for the vacancy in the dugout at Anfield with Julian Nagelsmann also on the Reds' radar. Whilst there is yet to be a clear favourite for the job, securing the services of Amorim could represent a major coup for FSG.
The 39-year-old has led Sporting to the top of the Liga Portugal, boasting a game in hand over rivals Benfica. Amorim has also guided his side to the latter stages of the domestic cup competition, bolstering their chances of picking up silverware this season.

Having scored more goals than anyone else in the division, it is safe to say that Amroim may well be a fitting successor to Klopp's brand of 'heavy metal football' that has earned unanimous acclaim on Merseyside.
Ruben Amorim encourages his Sporting CP side from the sidelines.
Whilst Alonso would be the obvious choice for many in regards to the next Liverpool boss, approaching Amorim could prove an equally effective decision and save FSG the headache of entering a bidding war for the Spaniard's services.
A diretoria são-paulina tem receio do gramado artificial, onde diversos jogadores do time acabaram tendo lesões.

Migael Pretorius claimed 29 wickets in the 2025 Championship•Dave Vokes/Hampshire Cricket
Somerset have confirmed the return of Migael Pretorius as one of their overseas players for 2026. The South African allrounder will available for the full season across formats.Pretorius has played for Somerset since 2024, making five fifties to go with 58 wickets in 21 appearances. Last season, he featured eight times in the County Championship, as well as both games on Blast Finals Day as Somerset lifted the trophy for the second time in three years.”From the moment he arrived in 2024, Migael wholeheartedly bought into the culture of the club,” Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry, said. “During his two previous spells with the club, he has shown that he has the ability to impact games with the bat, with the ball and in the field, and he will once again add valuable depth and experience to the squad.”Related

Pretorius, 30, has been named in various squads by South Africa but is yet to win an international cap. Overall, he has taken 230 first-class wickets at 27.50, to go with 61 in List A and 100 in T20 cricket.”I’ve really enjoyed playing for Somerset over the last two years,” Pretorius said. “From day one I was made to feel at home and it’s a pretty special place to play. To be part of the team that won the Blast was incredible and hopefully we can emulate and even exceed that success in 2026.”
Left-arm seamer is Hampshire’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket but has been plagued by injuries

Chris Wood celebrates a wicket•Getty Images
Chris Wood, Hampshire’s left-arm seamer, has announced his retirement from red-ball cricket at the age of 29 to focus on prolonging his limited-overs career.Wood has taken 105 wickets at 30.22 across a 43-match first-class career, but has regularly been dogged by injuries. He will represent Hampshire in the T20 Blast, and was a £40,000 signing for the Oval Invincibles in the Hundred draft.”I’ve been desperate to play red-ball cricket,” Wood said, “but in recent years every time I get up and running my body seems to hold me back, and this has been the case since having two knee operations over the last few seasons.”When I play red-ball cricket, I feel I’m good enough to contribute to the team but my body just hasn’t allowed me to bowl 30 to 40 overs each week and in consecutive games, so I’ve been mulling it over for some time and now feels like the right time to finally make this decision.”Concentrating solely on white-ball cricket and trying to get the most of my career, playing the formats that I’m more comfortable with and have had more success in, feels like it makes sense and I’m looking forward to being able to focus all my training overs on improving my skills as a white-ball bowler, which will hopefully help me to continue contributing to the club’s limited-overs success in the years to come.”Wood is Hampshire’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket, with 131, and was a key part of the club’s limited-overs double in 2012, as well as their sustained period of T20 success from 2010-15. He had his first taste of franchise cricket earlier this winter, playing for Northern Warriors in the Abu Dhabi T10.
Curran’s release from England Test bubble tempered by visiting duo at The Oval
ECB Reporters Network22-Aug-2020
Sam Curran celebrates dismissing Ollie Robinson•Getty Images
Grant Stewart made 58 and Harry Podmore scored a fine 42-ball 47 from No. 8 as the pair added 73 for the seventh wicket and Kent reached a determined 295 for 8 after being put in by Surrey on the opening day of their Bob Willis Trophy fixture at the Kia Oval.Sam Curran returned from England Test duty to take 3 for 65 for Surrey but it was the lower-order partnership between Podmore and Stewart that ultimately edged the day Kent’s way after a battling performance. There were also half-century stands for the second and fifth wickets, respectively by Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jack Leaning and then by Marcus O’Riordan and Darren Stevens, to frustrate Surrey’s attack. At 99 for 4 in mid-afternoon, however, it looked like it would be Surrey’s day after Bell-Drummond fell for a fighting 111-ball 45 – leg-before to Adam Finch – and Ollie Robinson was also pinned in front for 17 by Curran. But O’Riordan, a contemporary of England’s new batting star Zak Crawley when they were both at Tonbridge School, reached 30 from 65 balls while veteran allrounder Stevens made 24, before edging Rikki Clarke to Ben Foakes behind the stumps, as the pair led a counter-attack with a stand of 55 in 13 overs. And then, after O’Riordan had thin-edged Curran to Foakes in the second over after tea, pushing at one angled across him from the left-arm seamer, Podmore arrived to play an excellent knock that included six fours and a big six sweetly struck into the new Peter May Stand construction site off Amar Virdi.Stewart also drove offspinner Virdi for a straight six and hit five fours in his 103-ball innings, before being eighth out in the day’s 87th over when he went down the pitch to Virdi, missed an attempted lofted drive and was bowled leg stump. The 22-year-old O’Riordan, just nine days older than Crawley, impressed in what is just his fifth first-class game. He has been getting his Kent chance in this abbreviated summer largely because of the absences of Crawley and other senior players, and despite his offspin being reportedly his strongest cricketing suit he has looked very comfortable taking various top-order batting roles in the past month. In his fourth Willis Trophy appearance, O’Riordan came in at 99 for 3 and resisted gamely, hitting five fours before departing at 170 for 6. The efforts of Podmore, Stewart and Matt Milnes, who finished on 22 not out after a handy 49-run stand with Stewart, then ensured that Kent were marginally the happier at stumps.Earlier Kent had fought hard to get to 56 for 1 by lunch, with Bell-Drummond joined by Leaning in a partnership of 58 in 25 overs after Jordan Cox had gone in the ninth over, leg-before to a Matt Dunn yorker.Leaning eventually went for 21, chipping Curran to mid on off a leading edge in the sixth over after lunch, and just before his dismissal by Finch, acting captain Bell-Drummond was hit on the shoulder by the impressive 20-year-old paceman, making his second Surrey appearance on loan from Worcestershire.Finch, though, then had to wait until deep into the final session to get his second scalp, that of Podmore who carved to backward point.Wicketkeeper Foakes, like Curran, was playing his first BWT game after being released from England’s bio-secure Test bubble but Surrey were without fast bowler Morne Morkel, who picked up a niggle in the defeat against Hampshire at Arundel last week.Kent, without Joe Denly and Sam Billings – who have joined England’s white-ball squad – and Heino Kuhn, who is on paternity leave, have given a first-class debut to 20-year-old paceman Nathan Gilchrist, signed from Somerset earlier this summer, and who finished on 1 not out.
