The Mets have agreed to a blockbuster trade with the Rangers that will send second baseman Marcus Semien to New York in exchange for outfielder Brandon Nimmo, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
It’s a big trade involving a pair of standout players. Semien had a .669 OPS in 2025, along with a 3.3 bWAR. He launched 15 home runs and 62 RBIs while stealing 11 bases. A Gold Glove winner in 2025, Semien is one of the best defensive middle infielders in baseball, and he can provide tremendous value in that regard for the Mets.
As for Nimmo, 32, he slashed .262/.324/.436 with 25 home runs, 92 RBIs, 13 steals and a 2.9 bWAR. He signed a long-term extension with the Mets in 2022––an eight-year deal worth $162 million. Nimmo was one of the longest-tenured players in franchise history and had become a fan-favorite throughout his decade with the organization. He was also one of just 11 players ever to appear in more than 1,000 games for the team.
Semien is under contract for three more years, collecting $26 million in 2026 and ‘27, and $20 million in ‘28, after which he’s due to hit unrestricted free agency. Nimmo, on the other hand, is locked down through the 2030 season and will make an average of $20.5 million per season.
Both the Mets and Rangers were among the biggest spenders in terms of payroll in 2025, each ranking inside the top seven. Despite that, they both underperformed and missed the postseason. They’ll both be hoping the offseason trade can improve their chances of reaching the playoffs in ‘26.

In an absolute see-saw battle, Aliss came back after injuring himself earlier in the last over, to hit the winning boundary and beat Khulna Tigers by two wickets in the second qualifier.Islam was unbeaten on 17 off seven balls, with two fours and a six, to take the Chittagong franchise into their second BPL final. They will face defending champions, and favourites, Fortune Barishal at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Friday.Chasing Khulna’s 163 for 6, Chittagong were all but out of the contest before Aliss got them back with his surprise cameo. Earlier, Khulna were powered by Shimron Hetmyer’s 63 to reach 163 for 6 in 20 overs. They went at less than six runs an over for the first 16 overs.Aliss the KingChittagong’s batting order, that lacked depth, was left exposed when tail-ender Khaled Ahmed walked in to bat at No 7. They slipped from 105 for 2 to 130 for 7 between overs 13 and 17. Arafat Sunny and Aliss then added 26 runs, with both hitting a couple of boundaries each.When Aliss slipped in the last over, he hurt his ankle. Shoriful Islam walked in, inside edged a boundary. But he fell next ball, and Chittagong’s players put on Aliss’ pads for him and he walked out again. He smashed Musfik Hasan for a boundary and sparked huge celebrations.Nafay powers ChittagongChittagong lost two of their big-hitters early in the chase. Parvez Hossain Emon holed out to mid-on before Graham Clark, smarting from a blow to the nose while fielding, missing a straight one from Hasan Mahmud. Khawaja Nafay though kept the run rate at a fair clip with this combination of quick singles and no-look clips on the leg side. He added 70 runs for the third wicket with Hussain Talat, fresh off his great form in the Champions T20 Cup (Pakistan’s domestic T20 competition) recently.The Pakistani pair relied a lot on rotating the strike but just when the boundaries dried up, Talat struck the big ones. He made 40 off 25 balls with five fours and a six, while Nafay reached his second half-century for the season, as Chittagong looked to be sailing smoothly.Nasum double sparks a collapseTalat swung Nasum towards the deep-square-leg boundary in the 13th over, only to be caught in the boundary. It sparked a collapse as Shamim Hossain also top edged Nasum in his next over, before Musfik accounted for Nafay. The set batter couldn’t get going after reaching his fifty, missing on a lap shot against the fast bowler. He removed Khaled later in the over, before the Chittagong captain Mohammad Mithun top edged Hasan Mahmud in the 17th over.Chittagong apply the squeezeEarlier in the evening, Khulna didn’t get going with the bat for a long time. They lost captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the third over when Binura Fernando got one to scissor through him. Islam then had Alex Ross caught and bowled in the following over, before Khaled Ahmed, Chittagong’s best bowler, removed Mohammad Naim, Khulna’s best batter, for 19.Afif Hossain also couldn’t resuscitate Khulna, making just 8 off 14 balls, before holing out in the deep in the ninth over. Chittagong applied the squeeze and then some, keeping Khulna from hitting boundaries for more than six overs. Aliss completed his four overs during this period, going for just 14 runs. Hetmyer, at the crease, didn’t help matters, as they meandered to 92 for four at the end of the 16th over.Hetmyer does his thingWith their backs to their wall, Khulna really needed a boost at this stage of their innings. Mahidul Islam Ankon, who had hit the two sixes in the innings thus far, slammed Khaled before Hetmyer got two sixes to take 23 off the 17th over. Shoriful removed Mahidul first ball next over, but Hetmyer still found two fours in the over. Fernando, who had given away just six runs in his first three overs, then came into Hetmyer’s crosshairs. The left-hander struck him for two fours and two sixes in his first four balls, before falling off the last ball. Hetmyer had arrived for Khulna just before the eliminator match against Rangpur, having just played in the ILT20.Mohammad Nawaz and Jason Holder cobbled together 17 runs in the final over, to give Khulna the much-needed boost. They made 71 off the last four overs to finish on 163 for 6, but it wasn’t enough.

The last England captain to achieve this feat was Bob Willis in 1982, when he picked 5 for 66 in Brisbane.36 – Stokes took only 36 balls to complete his five-wicket haul (5 for 23). It is the third-quickest five-for by an England seamer (where data is available). Only Stuart Broad has been quicker than him, completing a five-for in 19 balls vs Australia at Trent Bridge in 2015 and 34 balls vs New Zealand at Lord’s in 2013. This was in Wellington against New Zealand almost 80 years ago. Don Tallon and Ernie Toshack, both past 30, were among the seven debutants for Australia in what was their first Test match since World War II.

It certainly takes something special to outdo Glenn Maxwell at his own game. On Sunday, Maxwell pulled off the switch-hit against Varun Chakravarthy, but it was Prabhsimran Singh’s switch-hit off Sunil Narine that left our collective jaws on the floor.Prabhsimran is usually an intent machine in the powerplay, but on an Eden Gardens pitch that was described as “very, very slow”, he tempered his natural instincts and didn’t overhit the ball. He was on 34 off 32 balls. He was up against one of the best bowlers in T20 cricket.Narine darted a good-length delivery on middle and leg. It’s the kind of ball that has tied batters down for years. Prabhsimran, though, played a sensational switch-hit and launched the ball over the cover boundary, well away from the reach of deep point. When Prabhsimran attempted another switch-hit, off a no-ball, he miscued it to cover, but the choice of the shot had already messed with the line, length and plans of Narine.Related

The free-hit ball was on a hard length and wide of off, but Prabhsimran reached out and flat-batted it over Narine’s head for six. He ran away with the momentum and finished with 83 off 49 balls.Prabhsimran has always had explosive ability. Punjab Kings (PBKS) were so excited by his raw potential that they outlaid INR 4.8 crore for him at the IPL 2019 auction. At the time, Prabhsimran had not played a T20 match in senior representative cricket, but his ability to bash the ball interested the scouts. PBKS’ management kept cycling through coaches and captains, but they held onto Prabhsimran. Six years on, he has come of age as a T20 batter.He isn’t just a hard hitter in the powerplay. He has evolved into a versatile disruptor of bowlers and fields. He now has the nous to sit back and accumulate when conditions are difficult for batting. He also knows when to pull the trigger.When PBKS’ net bowler, an offspinner, tried to attack Prabhsimran’s pads during the nets at Chepauk on Tuesday, much like Narine had done at Eden Gardens, Prabhsimran swapped his hands on the bat handle and swatted him over cover. The crack off Prabhsimran’s bat reverberated around the empty stands, taking some of Chennai Super Kings’ net bowlers and reserve players by surprise. Now Ricky Ponting rarely gets excited about too much, but he went, ‘this kid, he is just magic – he’s got dust, and it’s covered in gold… just such talent and class.'”In that match against Gujarat Titans, Prabhsimran got twitchy after a slow start and went too hard at Kagiso Rabada, holing out to short third for five off eight balls. Fast-forward to Eden Gardens: another slow start for Prabhsimran, but this time he was prepared to absorb good balls on a tricky surface; once he got a measure of the conditions, he even lined up Narine.3:26

Wasim Jaffer, who has worked with Prabhsimran at both PBKS and Punjab in domestic cricket, is also impressed with his charge’s growth into a more rounded T20 batter.”I think he must have worked out who are the bowlers that he can target,” Jaffer said on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut show. “He generally takes a few deliveries before he starts getting into that ultra-aggressive mode. But yeah, he’s been a little smarter. Obviously, playing in this league for a few seasons also has helped. He’s one of the integral parts of that Punjab batting. That responsibility has shown the way he’s approached in games and that is a very good thing to see a different change in Prabhsimran.”He’s got shots all around the ground, whether square, whether straight. It’s just him picking the right balls to hit. And once he gets that big boundary or big sixes, just for him to rotate the strike and take it to the next over.”In the lead-up to the IPL, Prabhsimran had cracked three successive hundreds in the 50-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy, including an unbeaten 150 against Mumbai. But not too many fans follow cricket outside of internationals and the IPL. To them, Prabhsimran was perhaps just another uncapped player until IPL 2025.On Wednesday, he could be the top attraction among four uncapped openers who will be on show at Chepauk. If he continues to level up, he could well become a capped player by the next IPL. Only time will tell.

Now, according to a report by Africa Foot, Celtic are interested in signing Moussa Baradji, facing competition from Sunderland, who have been promoted back to the Premier League.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder currently plays for Yverdon-Sport, who finished bottom of this season’s Swiss Super League, thereby relegated, hence why Baradji is expected to be on the move again this summer, just one year after arriving from Legnago Salus in Serie C.
Baradji is valued at €3m (around £2.5m), described as a versatile midfielder by Drissa Traoré of Africa Foot, who adds that Galatasaray are amongst a number of European heavyweights vying for his signature.

How Baradji could replicate Victor Wanyama's Celtic career
Similar to Baradji, Victor Wanyama was not a known quantity when he joined Celtic from Beerschot in 2011, costing a reported fee of £900k, having made only 54 senior appearances for De Mannekes.
Nevertheless, just two years later, he was sold to Southampton for £12.5m, a Scottish record fee at the time, having impressed during his 91 appearances in hoops, most notably starring during the famous 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League, heading home the night’s opening goal.
That night, according to Ewan Murray of the Guardian, up against Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, Xavi and others, the Kenyan was the best player on the pitch, with then-manager Neil Lennon labelling him “world class”.
After three seasons by the South Coast, Wanyama would join Tottenham, a key figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s successful Spurs side.
He was then not quite so impactful at Club de Foot Montréal, spending a large period of his four-year stay in Quebec injured or not contributing much, before returning to Scottish football in March, linking up with Lennon again at Dunfermline Athletic.

As the table outlines, Baradji is something of an all-rounder, as Wanyama was, ranking pretty highly when it comes to shots, fouls and tackles, made all the more impressive considering his team finished rock-bottom of the Swiss top-flight.
Wanyama was particularly strong in the tackle, notably ranking as the tenth-best midfielder in the 2014/15 Premier League season for tackles per game (2.9). Thus, there are certainly similarities here.
Patrick Juillar of Sport 365 further describes him as a “box-to-box midfielder” who has just enjoyed an “outstanding” campaign, so if Celtic can secure his services, he could offer a big return on investment.
