£91k-per-week striker sold on joining Arsenal with Arteta in pole position

Arsenal can sign once-£130m striker in emergency deal after Havertz blow

The German will miss the rest of this season.

Havertz suffered a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s warm-weather training trip to Dubai, which will require surgery. The German is expected to undergo this procedure in the coming days, with Havertz then set to begin rehab which will extend into pre-season for 2025/2026.

As a result, the £280,000-per-week striker has played his last game of the campaign, leaving Arteta short of attacking options as he bids to catch Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus are also on the treatment table right now, with the latter also set to miss the rest of this season (Sky Sports). Right now, Arteta has just Raheem Sterling as his sole senior striking option, and the lack of numbers in Arsenal’s final third could seriously threaten to derail their title chances – if they weren’t slim enough already.

Arsenal will be keen to avoid a similar scenario next campaign, and those around the club will be left disappointed by the fact they didn’t bring in another number nine when the January transfer window was open.

Arsenal manager MikelArtetalooksdejected

Arsenal had a bid rejected for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, and were linked with more high-profile forwards throughout the window. However, unless the north Londoners opt to sign an emergency free agent like Diego Costa, then they’ll have to wait until this summer to bring in another number nine.

Benjamin Sesko "sold" on joining Arsenal this summer

According to reliable journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking on the GiveMeSport Market Madness Podcast, RB Leipzig starlet Benjamin Sesko appears to be the main candidate to bolster Arsenal’s forward line.

Other reports have claimed that Arsenal are considered favourites in the race to sign Sesko, with Jacobs providing a further update on the £91,000-per-week striker’s future at Leipzig.

RB Leipzig's BenjaminSeskoshoots at goal

He says that Sesko is “sold” on joining Arsenal after already being convinced by the project, and Arteta’s side are confident they can strike a deal for the Slovenia international who’s scored 15 goals and bagged four assists in all competitions this season.

“Now, Chelsea also like Benjamin Sesko. The good news for Joel is that I think Arsenal are leading that race. So I can foresee a situation where everyone wants Alexander Isak,” Jacobs said.

“He doesn’t leave Newcastle. Arsenal go for Benjamin Sesko. Player’s sold on the project.

“He just wanted to wait and do an extra season at Leipzig. But when he was presented with that choice between Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Sesko picked Arsenal and then made a secondary choice that he was going to stay at Leipzig. So Arsenal are quite confident on Sesko.”

That being said, he won’t come cheap, with German media claiming Leipzig are holding out for £83 million as they anticipate a bidding war.

"I've been waiting 20 minutes to shake your hand. Well done. You do this every game! I have to shake your hand. I've been waiting 20 minutes, Adi! Do you do this to everyone? This is the first time I've seen it. Well done, you're a top man," said a visibly annoyed Rosenior.

Rosenior provided more context about his full-time altercation with Hutter and explained the reasoning behind his outburst.

He said: "There is a code that I live by: you respect your opposition, you respect the people that you play against. I felt that the code was broken. I felt that code was broken in the first game [against Monaco earlier in the season]. When I have to wait five minutes to shake the opposition manager's hand, that says a lot about other people. THE BIGGER PICTURE

This is Rosenior's third job, having previously gained managerial experience in England with Derby County and Hull City, with the Strasbourg boss having recently been linked with replacing Enzo Maresca at Chelsea. In the post-match press conference, Hutter used the fact that he has been managing for 16 years to defend himself from the 40-year-old's accusations, stating: "It is the first time in my 16 years as a manager that I’ve heard things like this. I have managed in many countries, managed 650 matches. I have been coaching for two years in France and no coach has ever said to me that I have disappointed them."

Twin tons for du Plooy, Madsen strengthen Derbyshire grip

Record fourth-wicket stand of 267 leaves Worcestershire well off pace

ECB Reporters Network26-Jun-2023Wayne Madsen and captain Leus du Plooy rewrote the record books as Derbyshire moved into a position of considerable strength on day two of the LV=Insurance County Champoionship encounter with Worcestershire at New Road. The duo scored centuries and broke a 31-year-old landmark in establishing a new Derbyshire record of 267 from 70 overs for the fourth wicket against the home side. They went past the previous best partnership of 218 by Peter Bowler and Chris Adams at Derby in 1992.Madsen has always enjoyed batting against Worcestershire and in 24 innings has struck four centuries and nine other fifty plus scores.Their efforts have given bottom-placed Derbyshire a realistic chance of completing a first win in 10 Championship matches since they triumphed in the corresponding fixture last season. They will begin day three with a lead of 137 and five wickets in hand and du Plooy unbeaten on 159. But they were aided by an uninspired performance by the home side who dropped both of the batters before they reached three figures.Du Plooy was put down on 69 off Indian pace bowler Navvdeep Saini, a sharp chance to Ed Pollock’s left at slip. And Pollock also spilled a more straightforward chest-high opportunity offered by Madsen on 94 against Leach.Leach was head and shoulders above the rest of the Worcestershire attack and he made the only breakthrough with the ball during the opening two sessions.Worcestershire were guilty of bowling too many ‘four’ balls during the first part of the day to hand Derbyshire a momentum they never relinquished and their ground fielding was also below-par.Derbyshire resumed on 32 for 2 and Leach made a further breakthrough with the fourth ball of the day. Brooke Guest did not move his feet to a delivery which nibbled away as he edged through to keeper Gareth Roderick. It was Leach’s 33rd scalp of the season and he asked questions of both batters during a typically probing opening spell. But Indian pace bowler Saini initially found it hard to find the right line and length on his debut He was driven for a succession of boundaries by Madsen and du Plooy and Dillon Pennington also leaked runs during his initial spell and the fourth wicket pair looked untroubled against the Kookaburra ball on a slow pitch.Matthew Waite had a moral victory when du Plooy edged the allrounder for four. But Derbyshire scored freely and Madsen’s 56 ball half century contained 11 boundaries. The 100 partnership was completed in only 19.1 overs and du Plooy followed Madsen to his fifty from 68 deliveries with 10 fours. The morning session produced 126 runs off 28 overs.Saini bowled with plenty of pace and aggression in the post lunch spell and should have had picked up the wicket of du Plooy on 69 but Pollock spilled the chance at slip away to his left.Leach replaced the Indian pace bowler and Madsen on 94 edged him at chest height to Pollock who again spilled the opportunity and immediately left the field clutching his finger.Madsen completed his fourth hundred against Worcestershire off 148 balls with one six and 16 fours and du Plooy followed him to three figures from 144 deliveries with 14 boundaries. The first delivery with the second new ball finally broke the partnership when Madsen was lbw to Leach for 143 and then Haider Ali tried to cut Pennington and feathered through to Roderick. But du Plooy went onto complete his 150 from 249 balls with one six and 19 fours before the close.

Khawaja rested from Sheffield Shield under Cricket Australia workload management

The Queensland captain will miss the game against Victoria with an eye on the Test summer which starts in December

AAP12-Oct-2023Usman Khawaja has been rested for Queensland’s next Sheffield Shield fixture as Cricket Australia’s workload management spreads to include batters ahead of the international summer. The Queensland captain is fit and healthy, but on Saturday he will watch his side’s clash with Victoria in Mackay from his home in Brisbane.Queensland still have four Shield games before the first Test of the summer against Pakistan, beginning in Perth on December 14.Related

Australia, currently competing in the ODI World Cup in India, will play a five-game T20 series against the hosts, before returning home for a five-Test summer. They will also play two Tests in New Zealand in February and March, and contest T20 series alongside those five-day clashes.AAP understands all Australian squad members will be subject to the load management policy – which had not been flagged before Khawaja’s omission on Thursday – on a case-by-case basis. How to best manage bowlers’ workloads has long been a divisive topic, with Australian captain Pat Cummins dismissing the notion of rotation in India and hopeful his battery of quicks will play every World Cup game if fit.The 36-year-old Khawaja has a relatively light schedule compared with some of his Test team-mates who frequent the world T20 circuit, but he will play for the Brisbane Heat in the BBL.His omission is a nod to how crowded the modern-day cricketer’s calendar has become.”Ideally you want your captain and best player to be there for every game, but we all know that, barring injury, he will be one of the first bats picked for the Pakistan series, so we understand the rationale behind the decision-making process,” Queensland coach Wade Seccombe said.”Uzzie is philosophical about it. He’d be happy to play, but he will also benefit from a more measured build-up ahead of another big international schedule for Australia.”He’s hitting them well, so we shouldn’t be too concerned on that front.”In-form wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson will captain in Khawaja’s absence, while Gold Coast product Ben McDermott is poised for a Shield return after his off-season move from Tasmania.

Brooke Guest stars with career-best 145* to keep Durham at bay

Derbyshire wicketkeeper Brooke Guest scored a career-best unbeaten 145 to frustrate Division Two leaders Durham in the LV=Insurance County Championship game at Derby.Guest backed-up his hundred against Sussex at Hove last week with another accomplished display to steer Derbyshire to 317 for 6 after Durham had put them in. Wayne Madsen made 62 and shared a third wicket stand with Guest of 118 in 32 overs before he fell to England fast bowler Matt Potts who took 2 for 57 from 20 overs.Durham’s decision to bowl first was probably based on the overhead conditions rather than the pitch which played well once the sun broke through. But while there was cloud cover, the openers were challenged by Potts and Ben Raine who saw Luis Reece dropped on 3 at second slip by David Bedingham. It did not prove costly as Reece, who along with Harry Came has signed a two-year contract extension, offered no shot to a ball from Raine that took out his off stump in the 11th over of the morning.Durham had to wait another 14 overs for their second success with Potts removing Came with a full length ball that straightened to bowl him for 16.Madsen almost went first ball, edging Potts just short of first slip and there was more frustration for the paceman when he squared Madsen up but the ball flew over the slip cordon.Potts had the chance to remove Madsen on 14 in the fourth over after lunch when an edge off Brydon Carse went low to him in the gully but the ball went through his hands. It was a miss Durham were made to pay for as Guest and Madsen played with increasing authority in bright sunshine.Guest drove Migael Pretorious through the covers for his ninth four to reach 50 from 103 balls before Madsen greeted Matt Parkinson by sweeping him for four. He came down the pitch to the legspinner and lifted him over mid-on for his eighth boundary to go to 50 off 73 balls and the runs continued to flow with the century stand coming up from 157 deliveries.Durham were desperate for a wicket and Potts provided it when he found some extra bounce to have Madsen caught in the gully by Alex Lees.Haider Ali survived a close lbw shout against Potts but announced his intentions in the last over before tea by launching Parkinson into the seats behind long-on. It completed a good session for the hosts with Guest 13 runs short of another hundred which he completed in the eighth over after the restart by sweeping Parkinson for his 15th four.Guest faced 181 balls and showed good judgement to bat his side into a promising position against the top side in the division. The stand with Haider was worth 70 when Durham got a fourth wicket in bizarre fashion. The Pakistan right-hander went to sweep Scott Borthwick, survived a confident lbw appeal but set off for a run that was never on and was stumped. That brought in Leus du Plooy who needed 21 to complete 1000 Championship runs for the season but made only 2 before he scooped Borthwick low to cover.Durham should have removed Guest on 122 when he edged Raine behind but Ollie Robinson could not hold on and he took advantage to pass his previous best score of 138 against Glamorgan last season.Raine claimed his second wicket when he bowled Anuj Dal but Guest made sure it was Derbyshire’s day.

> Veja classificação e simulador do Paulistão-2023 clicando aqui

Aston Villa v Tottenham form Aston Villa

Aston Villa have been going through a tricky period of late, winning just one of their last five fixtures in all competitions.

Morgan Rogers’ hat-trick against Celtic was enough for Villa to seal a top 8 finish in the Champions League, however, Emery’s side have dropped seven points from their last three Premier League games, including a defeat to Wolves last time out.

Inconsistency has been the story of Spurs’ season, and that is highlighted in their last five fixtures in all competitions. Wins over Hoffenheim and Elfsborg guaranteed Postecoglou’s side qualification into the Europa League last 16, and they even defeated Brentford on their own patch.

However, a disappointing home defeat to Leicester City and giving up a one-goal advantage in their EFL Cup semi-final second leg with Liverpool have been extremely frustrating for Tottenham.
